Inspired by breaks.

We need a break!!!

No… not in a relationship kind of way. Well, kinda.

Taking a break from writing was tough at first. I felt guilty, ashamed, and mad for not making progress on something… anything! But sometimes other stuff gets in the way. Work. Life. Vacation.

After a month and a half of being on a break, though, I've realized that breaks can be a good thing.

They give you some distance from your baby, so that elements that were once immune to editing suddenly don't seem so precious. They let you form a fresh perspective, a new way to look at your MC, story, or structure. Lastly… they allow you to have some fun! You can do something else for a while — traveling, spending time with people, exploring — so that you can come back to your project happy and full of energy.

So next time you need some inspiration for your writing… try not writing for a while.

Take a break!

How do you spend your breaks from writing?
